News Update, Katrina - 90 Nation Humanitarian Relief

Louisiana - Mississippi -U.S.A. ...Ninety nations respond with offers of funds and help. To date 40, have been accepted. Canadian Mounties were dispatched to the U.S. - The United Arab Emirates sending 100 million dollars in assistance - Australia 7.5 million - Japan $300,000 dollars worth of supplies - Germany and Sweden sending pumps and purification systems - France tents and cots - Cuba offers to send 1,600 doctors - Kuwait - $100 million - El Salvador sends manpower - Castro again offering help.

Official estimates put the costs to rebuild from Katrina and its' 160 mile per hour winds and 30 foot surge at five times that of the 911 tragedy - $100 billion dollars. Water pollution 45,000 times what would be considered safe. Testing shows 2.2mil/per parts, of human waste of contamination.

The Lousiana Superdome is in such deplorable condition it is estimated it will take $400 million dollars to renovate. It may be a wiser move to demolish and start all over.

One million people have been displaced and 400,000 jobs lost - The Labor Department has released $75 million dollars to help coordinate new job search efforts.

Habitat for Humanity to offer and build "Homes in a Box."

American Humanity Support: http://www.womans.org/ working with the state and local officials have found the parents of 400 babies separated earlier because of space restrictions. All but one baby has been reunited.

Pets - Noah's Wish, http://www.noahswish.org/ doing animal rescues. Many people refuse to leave because of their attachment to their pets. Currently 400 pets are in their care and another 160 in another shelter. There is no loss estimate on remaining animals.

Website with 2.6 billion hits a day helping people to locate family members and pets...www.craigslist.org. With communications down, this California based site is electronically patched into the area offering the needed communication assistance.

CVS donating money plus food, water and "personals." - News Corp, one million - Bank of America one million - Hess Corporation one million - Bayer two million - K-Mart 15 million - The Hollywood clan is doing benefits, George Clooney donating one million.

America, on the mend again!
